East Canyon is a popular spot with the boating and fishing crowd. East Canyon reservoir is 780 acres in size. Brown trout and rainbow trout can both be caught here. It is rather close to the Salt Lake Valley, you can be on the water or at a campsite in under an hour. There are many biking and hiking trails located nearby as well.

East Canyon reservoir is located Northeast of Salt Lake City. There are a few different ways to get there, either travel East on I-80 to exit 134, follow the signs on highway 65 until you reach the reservoir. Or, travel up Emigration Canyon till it joins highway 65, this is probably a more scenic option.

There are 3 campgrounds located around the reservoir. The largest is inside the East Canyon State Park, there are 31 sites available. This campground features very little shade and the campsites are rather close together. If you are camping in sites 12-20 or so expect a rather long walk to the bathrooms. There is a $7.00 day use fee or a $14.00 campsite fee. There is a rather nice picnic area located next to the reservoir at the state park. This area features a sand volleyball court and numerous picnic pavilions.

Rivers Edge and Big Rock campgrounds are located just before the reservoir. Rivers Edge has a few places to camp but nothing very organized. Big Rock campground has 27 sites that are fairly well spaced apart. There are a couple campsites where you are far enough away from neighbors. Both of these campgrounds charge $8.00 a site.
