Deer Creek State Park

At
just over 2000 acres Deer Creek Reservoir is a fairly good sized
body of water. Although it is relatively close to the urban areas
of Provo and Orem the lake doesn’t see as much traffic as its
northern cousin Pineview Reservoir.
Due to Utah’s ongoing drought the reservoir is down a
bit, this is evident in the bathtub ring around the lake. The
views of Mt. Timpanogos are stupendous, even during the summer it is
common to see snow on the upper mountain.
There is only one place to camp at Deer Creek, this is the Deer Creek State Park. The park is located on what used to be the channel to Wallsburg Bay. The
park features 63 campsites divided up into two areas. The Choke Cherryloop has full hook ups for the RV crowd. Each site features its own covered picnic table and two grills. Sites 23 and 26 probably offer the finest views of the reservoir. The Choke Cherry sites are $20.00 per night.
Great
Horned Owl is the other loop at Deer Creek State Park. The
campsites in
this
loop are a bit closer together than Choke Cherry. There are 23
sites with a bit of tree cover providing shade. Each site has a
picnic table and firepit, there are no roofs covering the picnic
tables. But, the lack of amenities and closeness of campsites
does save you a bit of cash, the sites are $14.00 per night.
There
are several group day use areas available. Wallsburg Bay,
Rainbow Bay and Island Beach all have large pavilions reservable
for group use. For a family reunion or other such event I’d
probably recommend the Island Beach site, as the water level
sits it is closest to the water.
