South Fork of the Ogden River

The
South Fork of the Ogden River is a popular camping spot,
campgrounds
abound. This area is easily accessed from either Ogden or Salt
Lake City. From
Ogden drive up Ogden canyon and continue East to Huntsville,
take a right on highway 39. From
Salt Lake City drive up I-15 to the Lagoon exit, head North on
highway 89 until you reach the entrance to highway 84, head East
on 84. Continue on 84 until you reach the Mt. Green exit, follow
the signs to Trappers Loop. At the end of Trappers Loop make a
right towards Huntsville, take a right on highway 39.
If
you decide to camp up here be sure and bring an inner tube and a
fishing pole. The South Fork of the Ogden River winds by most of
the campgrounds. There are many opportunities to either wet a line
of drift down the river. This area is quite popular and
reservations are highly recommended. All campsites feature a
picnic table, fire ring and nearby bathroom.
Magpie
is the first campground encountered on highway 39, this is about 5
miles after turning off in Huntsville. Magpie is $12.00 per night
and features 27 sites.
Botts
is found soon after Magpie. Botts has 8 sites and is also $12.00
per night. There are several sites that are directly on the river,
but all sites are located a short walk away.
The
South Fork campground is next, this is probably the largest of the
campgrounds in the row. Plenty of trees and bushes provide shady
campsites.
The
river flows directly through the campground, it is quite easy to
procure a site where you can listen to the river flow by as you
fall asleep. It is a bit nicer campground and therefore the price
is upped to $14.00, there are 44 sites to choose from.
The
sign for Perception Park will be the next one you see. This is a
very
developed campground with a playground and a free day picnic
area. There are 24 sites either located on the river or a short
walk away. This campground also features a group area for those
larger camp-outs. The Individual sites cost $14.00 per night.
The
Meadows campground is up next, this campground has two different
areas. 
The Upper Meadows is first and features 9 campsites. Follow
the signs to the Upper Meadows, there you will find 23 sites to
choose from. In each campground you will find a mixture of shady
and full on sun sites. As a general rule the campsites on the
outside of the ring are usually more shady. The Upper Meadows
costs $12.00 per night, while the Lower Meadows are $14.00 per
night.
The
last Forest Service campground along the row is the Willows
campground. This campground has 16 sites available, these
sites are generally well separated. The river is either campside
or close by. These sites are available for $12.00 per night.
A
bit further down the road you will see a sign pointing you towards
Causey
Reservoir, this area is not to be missed if site-seeing is
in mind. There is also a campground run by Weber County. The Weber
County Memorial campground features 3 separate areas, two of them
group areas and one containing about 31 sites. These sites are a
bit more run-down than the forest service areas but are still a
good way to go camping. It costs $15.00 per site to camp in the
Memorial Park.
