Steinaker Reservoir is located about 4 miles North of Vernal, UT. The reservoir is located at 5520 feet, and covers 829 acres. Steinaker is stocked with Bluegill, Largemouth Bass, and Rainbow Trout.
All the land surrounding the reservoir is public property, so there are
plenty of opportunities for shore fishermen. The largemouth bass can be
caught by casting tube jigs, rubber worms, or crankbaits around weed beds.
Bluegill will take worms suspended below a bobber. The trout will hit on
flies, or the traditional baits.
Steinaker State Park is a very nice park. The campground has 31 very nicely
spaced sites. There are plenty of mature trees to provide shade. Sites 10,
12, 30, and 31 have great views overlooking the reservoir.
Sites 18, 20,
and 22 are located right next to the water. There are two group areas also available. Sandy beaches, boat ramp, fish cleaning station, this park really has it all.
There are many activities located nearby, the park makes a great basecamp to explore Dinosaur National Monument, Flaming Gorge and the Ashley National Forest.
