Red Fleet State Park
Reservations Now Available!
Red Fleet is located about 11 miles North of Vernal, UT. To get to Red
Fleet, drive North on Highway 44 out of Vernal until you see the sign for
the state park. This reservoir is one of the most scenic in the state.
Although small, it has an almost Lake Powell feel to it. The surrounding area is all redrock, reminiscent of Southern Utah. The reservoir is situated at 5600 feet and covers 520 acres.
Red Fleet is stocked with Rainbow Trout, Largemouth Bass, and Bluegill. The
fishing isn’t bad and the scenery is even better. The water levels are high
this year, but in most years the water level can get a bit low in the
There is a trail leading to a series of petrified dinosaur footprints, be
sure and ask the ranger about the trail. There are quite a few cottontail
rabbits that hang out near the gate of the park, look for them in the grass.
The campground of the park is a bit disappointing, it closely resembles a
parking lot. Luckily the scenery almost makes up for the closeness of the
sites and the general lack of “campground” feel. There are 39 sites, they
all feature picnic tables, fire grates and shaded mini-pavilions.
There is a $5.00 day use fee, campsites are $11.00 per site with a $7.00
reservation fee. Campsites include one vehicle, an additional vehicle is
$6.00. There is a boat ramp and fish cleaning station in the park as well.
